Mission to Argentina and Chile October 2010
Tap into two prime South American markets
This October a trade mission leaves Wales for Argentina and Chile: two countries which have shown resilient growth in the past decade and which offer exceptional trading opportunities in a number of key sectors.
The dates are yet to be finalised, and there is still an opportunity for mission members to influence the precise itinerary, which is also in development. But it will include visits to some of the very largest companies in those two countries, facilitated by the excellent network of contacts established through WAG and UKTI sector personnel.
Argentina saw solid growth of between 7 and 9.2% pa before the recession: after a slight blip, growth is expected to return in 2010. A very strong domestic market is being driven by the construction industry, the automotive sector and oil and gas, while agriculture remains a massive economic driver. The country not only has one of the largest populations in South America (40 million) but also one of its largest and strongest economies, with a stable currency and secure trading environment.
Chile currently occupies 20th place among the most attractive countries to do business, with a stable and growing economy. Mining is the biggest industry and all the supply chain requirements that entails. There has recently been speculation that Chile will move more towards underground mining in the future – opening up opportunities for a number of specialist suppliers.
Energy is a further sector enjoying growth: Chile's has just opened its first LNG regasification plant and the country has massive potential in renewables. There is a great deal of interest in life sciences too, and demand for high-end consumer goods, while the strong defence links between the UK and Chile provide a solid ongoing market for British products and services.
