BA has three MRO sites in south Wales:
BA Maintenance Cardiff (BAMC), adjacent to Cardiff Airport, is the world’s only licensed dual bay facility capable of maintaining and overhauling Boeing 747 and 777 aircraft.
British Airways Avionic Engineering opened in Pontyclun in south Wales in 1995, and its team of 200 carries out avionic repairs and tests for British Airways and other customers.
British Airways Interiors Engineering in Blackwood overhauls and maintains all the seating for the British Airways fleet.
GE Aviation: One of the world’s biggest engine maintenance centres gets even bigger
GE Aviation’s site in south Wales is one of the largest aircraft engine maintenance facility in the world. Its customers include Continental Airlines and DHL.
Its one million sq ft of servicing floor space includes a $40m GE 90 test facility, and the capability to maintain, test and repair the new GP7000 and GE90-115b engines.
And the company is expanding yet further in Wales. In December 2005 GE Aircraft Engine Services won the BA contract to maintain and test the CFM/RB2 engine for the next 10 years. The contract is worth more than £1bn.
“This contract demonstrates that MRO in Wales is growing its capabilities, and is a real testament to the efforts of our skilled workforce and the support we received from the Welsh Assembly Government and the Welsh Development Agency.” Karl Fessenden, Managing Director, GE Aircraft Engine Services Wales 2005
